The Washington Post has announced its endorsement of Ted Velkoff for Fairfax County School Board.  Calling Ted one of the impressive newcomers, The Post highlighted his community involvement and vision of Fairfax County Public Schools.  The endorsement stated, “Mr. Velkoff, with more than 10 years as a parent volunteer in the schools, has a deep knowledge of the issues and talks with passion about the need to develop new intellectual and social skills in students entering a 21st-century labor force.”

The Connection today stated that, “Arguably the most important race… especially the at-large race,” is this year’s election for Fairfax County School Board. I agree with this statement and that is why I have been working to make sure the voices of students, parents, teachers, and all those affected by the School Board are heard in this year’s election cycle. One of the primary missions of the School Board is to understand the community’s needs and to help represent them in their decisions. If elected in November, I will use common sense, sound judgment and innovative ideas to help our community.

To make this happen I need your support. I need supporters to join me at football games, to volunteer at back to school nights, to put up signs, and to tell their friends about me. Can you help my campaign by signing up to volunteer today?

Some of you, in fact, I met in the same building when our children attended Pleasant Valley Preschool over fifteen years ago. We have all seen our kids through high school – Chantilly and others – as they have graduated and moved onto the next phase in their lives. It’s a new chapter for them and for us.

Because I have learned so much about the value of our public schools – for kids, for families, and as an economic engine for our county – my next chapter will be devoted to keeping that system going strong. Like you, I feel fortunate to have raised my family here in Fairfax County, where we have good jobs, good neighborhoods and good schools. I look forward to working with you between now and November to carry my positive message about education to the voters. If elected to the School Board, I will work to ensure that the great education my daughters received continues to be available to all children.
