About
My family, experience in the schools, involvement in the community, and
professional background all serve to shape my candidacy for School Board.
Family: My wife and I moved to Fairfax County to raise a family in a community with great schools. Our family has been blessed by quality teachers, access to extra curricular activities, and the community spirit the schools in Fairfax County provide. While my daughters have graduated, Catherine from South Lakes High School and Elizabeth from Chantilly High School, I seek to remain involved in our schools by working to ensure all children receive the same great education that my daughters received. My passion for public education is derived from my family’s experience.
Support for Public Education: More than 10 years of involvement with our schools convinced me that the School Board needs strong leadership and fresh ideas. I have been active in Fairfax County Schools as a parent-volunteer and PTA member since my daughters were in preschool, serving as PTA Treasurer for Rocky Run Middle School, Poplar Tree Elementary School, and Pleasant Valley Preschool. I also served as Treasurer of the Chantilly High School PTSA and then as PTSA President from 2008-2010. In 2010, I was appointed to the Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent’s Business and Community Advisory Council. My activity in our schools has provided me with the experience, insights, and qualifications necessary to represent you on the School Board.
Community Involvement: I have been the stage manager, a parent volunteer and a performer at the Fairfax Ballet. I am a member of the Sully District Democratic Committee, served as Treasurer for former Delegate Chuck Caputo, and am a member of Fairfax County Democratic Committee’s Education Committee. Through various forms of community involvement, I have developed strong ties with other parents, students, and teachers.
Employment and Education: My background and experiences have helped to illuminate the importance of providing our students with a well-rounded 21st Century education. I hold a bachelor’s degree in composition and master’s degrees in conducting and computer science. My decision to work in computer science has led to me be employed as a software architect and engineer for companies like Lockheed Martin and IBM, and Integrity One Partners where I am currently employed.
My common sense approach, passion for our children, and commitment to serving as an independent and reasoned voice for public education on the School Board all have a basis in my family’s experience, involvement in our schools, community activity, and my own professional background.
